Overview

When the heat quits and it can't wait until morning

North Louisiana winters are mild — right up until a hard freeze rolls in and the furnace picks that exact night to quit. A cold house with kids, older family members, or pipes at risk of freezing isn't a next-week problem. Mark Johnson & Sons answers the phone live, 24 hours a day, and gets a licensed tech rolling to no-heat emergencies across Ruston, Monroe, West Monroe, and Grambling — nights, weekends, and holidays included.

The tech who shows up is on our payroll — no subcontractors — carries the common ignition, flame-sensor, capacitor, and blower parts that fix most no-heat calls on the first visit, and gives you a flat-rate quote before touching a tool, even at 2 a.m. We've done this across North Louisiana since 1997, on every major brand: Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York, and more.

If you smell gas right now

Get everyone out of the house, leave a door open on the way, and don't touch light switches, appliances, or your phone inside — a spark is the risk. Once you're outside and clear, call us and, if the smell is strong, your gas utility. We answer 24/7, dispatch right away, and talk you through it. A gas smell or a furnace locked out on a safety fault is exactly the kind of call we're built for — we make the situation safe first, then diagnose and fix.

What we fix on the first visit

Most no-heat emergencies come down to a handful of parts we carry on the truck:

  • Cracked hot-surface igniters and dirty flame sensors
  • Tripped high-limit, pressure, and flame-rollout switches
  • Failed blower capacitors and motors that stop airflow
  • Bad gas valves and control boards that lock the furnace out

How fast we get there

No-heat calls are our top priority, day or night. During a widespread hard freeze the phones get slammed and everyone's furnace fails at once, so service members jump to the front of the line and get 15% off the repair — but we work every no-heat call as fast as we safely can, in the order that keeps the most vulnerable homes warm first. Call and describe what's happening — no heat, a burning smell, clicking that won't light, a tripped breaker, pipes going cold — and we'll dispatch and coach you through anything urgent, from a safe reset to protecting your plumbing, while we're on the way.

Warning signs

When to Call for Emergency Heat

Some heating problems can wait for a scheduled slot. These can't — call the moment you notice them.

  • No heat at all during a hard freeze or cold snap

  • A gas smell anywhere in or around the home

  • The furnace clicks or tries to light but won't stay running

  • A burning or electrical smell when the heat kicks on

  • The furnace has locked out on a safety fault and won't restart

  • Pipes at real risk of freezing because the house is going cold

  • The system trips the breaker every time it tries to start

  • A carbon-monoxide detector is going off near the furnace

  • Loud bang or rumble on ignition, then no steady flame

The Process

How an Emergency Heat Call Goes

Mark Johnson & Sons technician diagnosing a furnace on an after-hours emergency call in North Louisiana

On the truck

Professional tools, parts, and diagnostics — every call.

  1. Answered live, any hour

A real person picks up 24/7 — nights, weekends, holidays. We get your address, the symptom, and whether there's a gas smell, and dispatch right away.

  2. Safety first on arrival

If there's a gas smell or a safety lockout, we make the situation safe before anything else — check for leaks, shut off gas if needed, and clear any hazard.

  3. Fast diagnosis

The tech pinpoints why the furnace won't run — ignition, flame sensor, limit switch, gas valve, blower, or control board — and shows you what failed.

  4. Flat-rate quote, on the spot

You get a written flat-rate price before any work starts, even after hours. No hourly meter running, no pressure — you approve, then we fix it.

  5. Heat back on

Common no-heat parts ride on the truck, so most emergencies are fixed on the first visit. We confirm the furnace runs safely through a full cycle before we leave.

FAQ

24/7 Emergency Heating FAQs

How fast can you get here for no heat?

No-heat emergencies are our top priority. We answer live 24/7 and dispatch a licensed tech fast — day or night, weekends and holidays included. During a widespread hard freeze the phones get busy, so service members jump the line, but we work no-heat calls as fast as we safely can for everyone.

I smell gas — what should I do right now?

Get everyone out of the house immediately, leave a door open on the way, and don't touch any light switches, appliances, or your phone inside — a spark is the risk. Once you're outside and clear, call us and, if you can smell it strongly, your gas utility. We answer 24/7 and will dispatch right away and talk you through it.

Do you really answer the phone in the middle of the night?

Yes — a real person, live, 24 hours a day, at (318) 319-0220. No machine, no callback queue for emergencies. Nights, weekends, holidays, during a freeze — you get a human who takes your address and gets a tech moving.

What does an after-hours heating repair cost?

The after-hours emergency diagnostic is a flat fee that applies toward the repair, with an after-hours or holiday surcharge on top of standard repair pricing. Most no-heat repairs — ignition, flame sensor, limit switch — sit at the affordable end with the part already on the truck. You get a flat-rate quote before any work starts, even at 2 a.m.

Is no heat really an emergency, or can it wait until morning?

If the house is dropping toward freezing, there are kids or older family members inside, or pipes are at risk, treat it as an emergency and call now — a hard freeze can burst pipes and turn a repair into a flood. If it's a mild night and you're comfortable in a sweater, a next-day scheduled slot is fine and avoids the after-hours surcharge. Either way, we'll help you decide on the phone.

Can I restart the furnace myself before you get here?

You can safely check that the thermostat is set to heat with fresh batteries, the furnace switch is on, the breaker hasn't tripped, and the filter isn't clogged. If it locked out on a safety fault, you can try one reset — but if it locks out again, stop and leave it off. Repeated resets on a real fault can be dangerous, especially with anything gas-related.

Why did my furnace lock itself out?

Modern furnaces have safety controls that shut the unit down when something's wrong — a failed flame sensor, an overheating limit switch, a pressure or flame-rollout issue, or a gas-supply problem. The lockout is doing its job protecting you, so the fix is diagnosing what tripped it, not just resetting it. We find the real cause and correct it so it stays running safely.

My pipes might freeze — can you help with that too?

Yes. We're a full plumbing, heating, and cooling shop, so if the cold has already put pipes at risk we can address both the no-heat cause and any frozen or burst-pipe problem on the same call. Get the heat restored first, and keep a cabinet door or two open near exterior-wall plumbing while you wait for us.

Do you work on all furnace brands after hours?

Yes — every major gas and electric brand, including Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York, American Standard, Bryant, and Amana. The same common ignition, sensor, capacitor, and blower parts fix most no-heat calls regardless of brand, and they ride on the truck, so you're not waiting on a parts house to open in the morning.

Does the service savings agreement help in an emergency?

Yes, in two ways. Service Savings Agreement Plan ($189/year) gives you priority scheduling — you move to the front when the emergency line is slammed during a freeze — plus 15% off the repair. It also includes a Fall heating tune-up, which is the best way to catch the failing parts that cause most no-heat emergencies before the cold ever hits.
